Life in High Cotton

My name is Gretel and I’m happy you’re here. I grew up in the upstate of South Carolina enjoying my fair share of southern accents, sweet tea, skeet shooting, and corn bread (just a few of the WONDERFUL things about the south.) Now I live with my husband, Nathan, and our sweet Black lab, Dixie in the young and hip downtown area of Dallas, Texas. With my southern upbringing and my love for graphic design, color and patterns, I would call my style a mix of southern, modern, shabby chic and urban. With that being said I’m a junkie for a great yard sale and flea market find. My desire is to find something unloved and bring it back to life and I hope I am able to inspire you to do the same. I’ve found it doesn’t take pocket loads of money and brand new items to make a home feel “homey”. With a little paint, fabric, tender love and care, you can turn anything into a masterpiece.

My whole life I was taught to find the good in everything, and while not every situation is wonderful, there is some sort of wonderful that can be found inside. Naming my blog Life in High Cotton doesn’t mean I think we have a high cotton life, because I’ll be the first to tell you we don’t. It just means that we are finding the high cotton in our life and I hope I inspire you to do the same. Its not always about the circumstances, but what you make of them, and this same principle applies with your home. It’s not about WHERE you live, or HOW big your house is, but making it homey for YOU and your family.

Through this blog, I will be sharing my recent DIY projects, home renovations, newest obsessions, and thoughts as I am nesting in our sweet apartment in Texas. I hope I inspire you to start projects of your own with items around your house or from the yard sale down the block.

Happy DIYing!
