18V ONE+ Hybrid String Trimmer/Edger is rated 4.35 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great ONE+ product My old trimmer finally died and I needed to get a new trimmer. I have quite a few Ryobi ONE+ products and decided to get the Hybrid String Trimmer and Edger. Ryobi has another great product in their extensive line-up. It is extremely easy to switch from trimmer to edger mode. And the support handle adjusts very quickly for different sized users to provide a comfortable grip to control the tool in either mode.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works ok but not that great I wanted to replace a Black and Decker model with something a bit newer. I thought this would be the answer. However, it is not as powerful as I need and as the other unit. It takes several passes over some weeds to get them gone. Other clumps of grass are also a chore to remove. It only works well on thin grass. I am returning it for something more powerful. Other Ryobi products have been great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery Life i purchased a trimmer about 13 months ago and the battery went bad and customer service told me to take back where i purchsed which was home Depot, they replaced with a new one in the box. i assembled and ran for few minites and ran battery down and recharged it. i used again and ran out of power in less than 10 minutes and had to recharge again and this battery will not recharge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty Powerful Enough Bought this last Spring to replace a gas powered trimmer. This is just as powerful as my gas trimmer without the headaches of babying a small gasoline engine. I left it outside in my tool shed over the Winter and it was still fully charged when I needed to use it for the first time this Spring. One spool of cutting string lasted me all season. My yard is about 3/4 of an acre.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for small yards We have a small back yard and I love my power tools so why not try this. So far it has worked fine and the option for using power cord is great, but I haven't had to do that since I use the high capacity battery. Rotating the head is also a nice option to cut along the pavers to get a nice clean edge. My only gripe is putting new string, but that goes with any weeder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased with trimmer I purchased this about a year ago and am very pleased with it because it is lite weight does a very good job of trimming. My only issue with it is that the original battery did not last. I went to the one plus battery with the gauge and can trim non stop. I like the performance of this that I have added more tools to my collection from the 18V One + series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Electric trimmer This product is excellent. The only possible downside would be that you need to rapidly cycle the operating trigger to get the trimmer to extend the trim line. This is not obvious, but it is in the instructions. But who reads instructions? However, the plus side of this feature is that it does not continuously spool line out when you do not need it too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice starter machine I chose this trimmer because it uses the same battery as my other Ryobi tools and because I can use it with a power cable too. The weight is what I expected, and is easy to carry around my yard. 1 battery (P102) holds enough charge to edge the front and back of my average size tract home yard. The one thing missing from this is an edge guide.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cut those weeds It's been over a year since I bought this trimmer. I find it interesting that Ryobi would ASK me , now, to submit a review. It is well made, light weight, easily adaptable to cord or Li-Ion battery use. Uses .65 line, readily available. Rewind the used reels or buy ready wound reels (for a price!). The biggest plus for me is the reliability of the Ryobi Li-Ion battery. Black& Decker's NiCads are so much junk in comparison. B&D's tools are well made and very useful, but the batteries are the problem. And B&D refuses to see the benefit to their brand reputation by producing a replacement Li-Ion battery for their Fire Storm line of cordless tools. I therefor have built an adapter so I may run my 18volt B&D tools with the 18v R Li-Ion battery. It works fine, no problem, I can now use all my tools , rather than toss out the B&D tools. As the B&D tools wear out, I would definitely buy Ryobi replacements. Look on Instructables for my battery adaptor . See you on the trail!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really enjoy my new 18 volt trimmer edger I already have the Ryobi Curved Shaft 4 cycle gas unit with several attachments. I had two back surgeries last year and my wife needed something lighter. I ordered the 18 volt trimmer/edger & the 18 volt blower. I also have 12 other Ryobi 18 volt tools and 6 batteries. I love this so much I use it almost exclusively.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable & Flexible Trimmer I bought this trimmer several months back to replace a gasoline type I had for a while. I like it, like it well! It has a very flexible 18 volt battery and 110 volt optional power use. It runs very well on either option. If you use the 18 volt option, it runs substantially longer with the 18 volt extended run pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, easy to work I bought this trimmer last fall to replace another 18V trimmer. I must say that I am very pleased with the quality and ease of use of this product. I also bought the blower and love both products! The only downfall is that the battery does not last long, but long enough to make progress with the task at hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love having choice of two power sources Bought this trimmer last summer and I love it. I have electrical power sources in the back yard and can easily plug it in with a drag cord and use it, but in my front yard I don't have an electrical power source so being able to switch to battery power makes using this trimmer wonderful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent trimmer This gets my yard trimmed and edged in a snap. It does a great job. I just wish it worked better with trim line and didn't need the trimmer cartridges. I tried wrapping up an empty cartridge with some extra line I had for my previous small trimmer and it doesn't auto-advance the line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feature of the trimmer is the battery When I trim I use 2 batteries. So I take one from one of my other RyobI tools. I owned a Weed Eater cordless trimmer. The battery went out in 1 1/2 years and they wanted $100 for a new battery . I bought the Ryobi and there are no battery issues. It performs very well

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weedville This is a good medium duty weedeater. I have a large yard and really give it a workout. Like that it it lightweight and battery operated. Go thru several batteries so like having extras with the multiple charger and prefer the larger batteries as they last longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy to use trimmer I bought this Ryobi a year ago because it was on sale, I also have an electric and a gas trimmer and my Ryobi out works both of them. It works continuously until the batter is completely drained does not slow down! I will definitely buy another one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy to use! I have a big yard and this makes it so easy to get things done! I can pop in a battery and take care of the outer edges of my yard and then plug it in and take care of the yard closer to my house. It's easy for me to use and pretty lightweight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this trimmer/edger Easy to use and switch between trim and edge. Does a great job edging and the automatic string feed is great - no more tapping to release string. Bought an extra battery because I have a larger yard, but most of the don't need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great battery life and easy to use I purchased the Ryobi string trimmer last year and it's been a big help. I've had other electric trimmers with and without cords. This trimmer works very well and the battery life is great and takes very little time to recharge.
Date published: 2016-04-20
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good trimmer This trimmer is good for light trimming work. It is light and easy to use no gas and oil mix to worry about. I would say the edging feature is minimal only a fair job but for the money and ease of use I gave it 4 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and easy to use I bought this at the end of last summer to replace a gas weed eater. It works as well and weighs half as much. With the new Ryobi battery I can trim around the whole yard and edge the sidewalk with one charge.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from After two years. dissapointing My string trimmer worked perfectly the first year. Now after a short time edging, the string breaks off close to the hub and I have to disassemble it and extend the string manually. This happens to often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great weed eater. Bought this a few months ago and it really does the job as well as a electric or gas. I love the hybrid so if the battery dies I can plug it in. My only complaint is that it needs the bigger battery.
Date published: 2016-04-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ruining hybrid This is light and easy to use. I have not used the cord yet but I am sure it will work fine. The line feed is great an works even after I replaced the line my self.
Date published: 2016-04-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use! I bought this last year, and it works great! The battery lasts forever, and it is nice and quiet. Very easy to use, and very easy to do a good trim job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Real Good Trimmer A darn fine trimmer, with extended life battery it can certainly out work me! Good torque, good string roll out, a joy to own. One of my favorite tools.
Date published: 2016-04-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this trimmer, mainly because I can't pull the cord on my gas trimmer, I have several other Ryobi one plus tools, and I like the hybrid feature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great trimmer I got this trimmer last summer and have loved the power cord back up. Batteries don't last super long. Works great on small yards in batterie mode.
Date published: 2016-04-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Outstanding unit. It came with the battery and charger. Plus I can use it with an extension cord if I desire. Best 'weed eater' I have ever owned.

How do I advance the line on my RYOBI Cordless String Trimmer?

NOTE: Your RYOBI Cordless String Trimmer is equipped with an auto-feed head. Bumping the head to try to advance the line will damage the trimmer and void the warranty.

  • With the trimmer running, release the switch trigger.
  • Wait two seconds, and press the switch trigger again.

NOTE: The line will extend approximately ¼ in. with each stop and start of the switch trigger until the line reaches the length of the cut-off blade.

  • Resume trimming.

How do I attach the grass deflector on my RYOBI Cordless String Trimmer?

  • Remove the battery.
  • Remove the plastic hardware bag from the grass deflector.
  • Fit the grass deflector over the string head.
  • Line up the screw holes in the grass deflector with the holes in the motor housing.
  • Install supplied screws and tighten by turning clockwise with a phillips screwdriver.

How do I replace the line on my RYOBI Cordless String Trimmer?

  • Remove the battery pack.
  • Remove the spool from the string head.
  • NOTE: Remove any old line remaining on the spool.
  • Cut a piece of line approximately 9 ft. long. Use only .065 in. round or .080 in. twisted monofilament line.
  • Insert the line into the anchor hole in the upper part of the spool. Wind the line around the supper part of the spool clockwise, as shown by the arrows on the spool. Place line in the slot on upper spool flange, leaving about 6 in. extended beyond the slot. Do not overfill. After winding the line, there should be at least ¼ in. between the wound line and the outside edge of the spool.
  • Replace the plastic retainer spool and the spool cap.

  • Remove the battery pack.
  • Push in tabs on side of spool retainer.
  • Pull spool retainer up to remove.
  • Remove the old spool.
  • To install the new spool, make sure the line is captured in the slot on the new spool. Make sure the end of the line is extended approximately 5 in. beyond the slot.
  • Install the new spool so that the line and slot align with the eyelet in the string head. Thread the line into the eyelet.
  • Pull the line extending from the string head so the line releases from the slot in the spool. Reinstall the spool retainer by dressing tabs into slots and pushing down until spool retainer clicks into place.

Possible Cause—Battery is not secure

  • To secure the battery pack, make sure the e battery pack is snapped into place.

Possible Cause—Battery is not charged:

  • Charge the battery pack according to the instructions included with your battery.

What is the best way to cut weeds and grass using my string trimmer?

  • Keep your string trimmer tilted toward the area being cut
  • Pass the unit from left to right (if using a curved shaft string trimmer) and from right to left (if using a straight shaft string trimmer). By following these directional cutting paths, you will avoid having debris and grass clippings from being directed back at yourself.
  • Use the top of the line to do the cutting. Do not force the string head into uncut grass; this could cause the trimmer to bog down.
  • Avoid trees, shrubs wire and picket fences.
