  • You made this space look awesome and function so well, too! Great work!

  • This is exactly what I need to do in my shop! Good work.

    • Thanks! As said on the A Team, I love it when a plan comes together. And this has been a great way to please the wife by giving her the garage parking back while also being able to complete the projects list she has for me. Ha.

  • This is my next project as well. Did you anchor the wings to the wall or is it all free standing?
By Ellsswhere, on August 29, 2018
    • The two wings are connected to each other via the center, miter saw platform, but they are free-standing otherwise. They are plenty heavy. And I have a sliding miter saw, so I needed the extra space behind. Otherwise it would have hung off the front and I wouldn't have much material support. I've debated going for a non-sliding 12" miter saw for this very problem.

      Other changes include:
-quite a different plan for one cart to fit my table saw, as it has a 24" rip capacity and now added a router insert to it as well.
-3/8" plywood for "shelf backs" as I had it on hand.
-t-nuts and carriage bolts as leveling feet for the wings. (cut the legs about 3/4" shorter than the plans said because of this)
-I did not add the plywood to the sides of the wings. Instead I just cut a 2x4 as a lower brace between the legs. Cheaper and plenty sturdy.
      -smaller casters
-lower bottom shelf under miter saw (though now I would raise it a bit more so I could slide a tool set I have under there.)

I modeled everything up in Sketchup so I could make all the changes and it would make sense for my tools and shop.

  • Your work bench is the exact bench I've been looking for! I already knew I wanted this type of setup based off of Ana White's but needed it modded because I have the same table saw as you!  You would happen to still have the plans you used for the build, and be willing to share?!

    • I do, but some of it was “edit as you go”. I’ll check my sketch up file tomorrow and send the link.

  • This is a beautiful bench! What was most challenging about this build?
By RYOBI NATION, on August 27, 2018
    • Thanks! The most challenge part of this build is definitely leveling all three legs, no matter how careful and precise I think I was when cutting the lumbers and constructed them, they still came out a tiny bit off. And the "tiny bit off" became noticeable once assembled with stretchers. Used belt sander to take out some feet heights to level, total of six feet to this bench, that's a lot of contact points to consider.
