  • Nice job! It's great to have a spot to sit that also saves space and allows you to get rid of other not-so-pretty furniture pieces.

  • What is the finish?
By markemark, on July 23, 2018
    • I used tintable chalkboard paint from Lowes. I can't seem to remember the color, but I know it was from their favorites list.
By kyleepete, on July 26, 2018
    • Then I used lime wash to give a more dimension.

  • Can we see how you access the filing cabinet portion now that it's on it's side?
By NewYorkDave, on July 30, 2018
    • I’m currently out of state on vacation but I’ll upload a pic when I get back.
By kyleepete, on August 1, 2018
    • I took a picture of the filing bench/filing cabinet open but in order to upload a new pic (edit) it says that the project will be deleted and I'll have to resubmit it. The top on this piece basically just opens up. I installed a continuous hinge on the back and used a support hinge to keep it open. I put rails on the inside where the files can hang. If you have any more questions let me know!

  • Really nice job! We really like this one used as a side table! Did you modify the plans?
By RYOBI NATION, on July 23, 2018
    • No modifications. I found this table on their Shanty 2 Chic website. Apparently it is a table they built several years ago. I fell in love with the design, and added details using moulding trim around the pedestal base. I just followed their clear instructions off of the website. Thank you! I’m very proud of this build myself!

    • Actually the only difference I just thought of, are the angles I cut for the feet. They were made out of 4x4s, and I had trouble cutting those angles with my miter saw, because I only have a regular 10” miter saw (not Ryobi brand). I am wanting to upgrade to the nice 12” Ryobi saw, but I have to wait on that. I was still able to get a 45 degree angle cut, but I ended up having to flip the 4x4 over, and cut through again, carefully matching the already cut line.

    • We really like this design, too! It's so unique for a bedside table. Glad to hear the 10" helped you out on this project! We love how it turned out!

  • Well, this is part 2....last night I uploaded Part 1, and Part 2, but apparently, I just revised part 1 into Part 2 so tonight I will re-add Part 1 so you can see the first part of the build.  I can provide exact dimensions if anyone wants them, but it's basically an 8' sheet of ply.  Cut off 2' on one side, use it to make 2 or 4 EA side pieces, then Rip the 6' x 4' piece into as close to 12" sections as you can taking into account your blade width, or just get as close as you can.  You could save time, by just screwing it together at that point once all the pieces are cut.  This could also be a good bench, but you would have to add supports on the interior of the shelf, probably 2 lower and 2 high support braces should do it, 3 if you are going to have alot of large folks sitting on it.

  • Really nice job! Looks like you put a lot of work into this piece!
