  • Beautiful!!! I would love to do the same to my kitchen :). Can you share how you did it? Please!?!
By PinkyPatty, on February 20, 2014

  • Thanks! It was a lot of work. I took off all the doors (and numbered them so I knew where they go) and then sanded the front and back of each. I also sanded the cabinet frames. I used several different kinds of sanders. An orbital sander for the big parts and a finish sander to get the hard to reach spaces. Then I vacuumed everything to get as much dust off as I could and then took a tack cloth to try to clean it up even more. Then I took a foam brush and Minwax Poly Shades Mohogany satin finish and carefully stained the cabinets. This was 2 coats on each side. Be sure to brush with the grain. Also, when staining in the garage, I put tarps down and used upside-down paper plates under each door to raise it off the ground. It was a time consuming project but not terribly difficut. I started this by trying it on my bathroom vanities first before I went for the big kitchen project. I'm glad I did because I learned a lot on those other projects which I was able to apply in the kitchen (and they don't look quite as good as this).

  • That was a great Idea and looks great. What would be great would be add a cassette deck (for nostalgia) and add a popup 40in TV from the back.

  • Nice work... I've been looking for one of these to refurbish & modify forever. Where did you find this one?

  • Looks great! Can you tell me how you liked the table saw? I think I need to bight the bullet and buy one. Is this like a "contractor model" and did it do what you'd hoped? I'm skeptical of buying the cheaper version of something (and I don't have the cash to buy the higher end models), but I also don't want to waste money on a tool that will leave me hanging out to dry. Again, that's a beautiful cabinet, great work, and keep us posted on future projects!
