Wood Top Kitchen Island!

Wanted a new Kitchen Island, however wanted something very different, thus a flat kitchen island with a solid Oak counter top, with a 2 inch bull nose. one side of the island has traditional kitchen cabinets, while the other side has traditional bookshelf style cabinets.

Another awesome kitchen project! The lighting above the cabinets looks really nice. What a neat design with the corner shelving space, too. Did you create this design yourself?

Yes, this project was for family members who's home was hit by the Christmas Day Tornado in Dallas. They wanted to update the kitchen island, however they wanted something a little different than just the traditional granite. Therefore, I recommended a wood counter top, we looked online and found wood counter tops were actually very popular, therefore I put together a design that would have traditional kitchen cabinets on one side but book shelf type cabinets on the other side. There is an existing wall between the cabinets that houses the electrical and plumbing, therefore the 45 degree angle is because of the existing wall, that we lowered but of course we did not want to move due to the plumbing running through the floor. I decided to add the beed panels, and the two shelves in the middle. Raising the cabinets and putting sofa table legs under them, was more of a functional design to keep access to the outlets. Yes, this is an original design, one part function and one part creative. LOL. Thank you!
