My daughter is a violinist and I always wanted to know how to make a violin. I never played a violin but always loved the beauty that went into these magnificant instruments. I purchased a book on Violin making and decided to give it a try. While my hopes were high I lacked the talent of a professional Luthier. I decided to make all the tools and templates required to make a real violin. In addition, I made a steam bender from some copper pipe. I used my Ryobi drill press, orbital sander and occilating sander to make the templates and all the tools required to make the violin, with the exception of the gouge I used to carve the neck, scroll and belly. It was a fun project that I will give to my daughter and grandaughter.
