I made this lightweight, portable "Urban Sketching" painting easel out of 1/4" inch plywood, torsion hinges, 1/4" tee nut, 10 rare earth magnets and a regular camera tripod. A 1 1/2" slot to hold a flared PVC pipe was made using a large drill bit and then I used a Ryobi rotary sanding tool to make it fit so it holds burshes and pencils. It folds up into a small space and I can take it anywhere when I feel like using my paint sets for long or short sketching or painting sessions. I made it with a 6 1/2" circular saw and a drill-driver. It was created using James Gurney's plans, a professional artist that does a lot for the art community.
