    • I "build"everything in Sketchup before starting projects and in my larger projects I make cut lists. I do try to make them accessible if anyone wants to make them :)
      By DIYDadOf4, on January 4, 2017

  • I would love to see the plans and make this myself!
By Smashingdiy, on January 4, 2017
    • Sure, although you need SketchUp (free I think) and someway for me to get them to you. They are in 3D model form not nessarily plan form, just FYI :)

    • Sent :) there where some on the fly alterations. I do know there is a 37" measure that is actually 39", they are a few cross bars but I'm not exactly sure where I'm the plan.
      By DIYDadOf4, on January 11, 2017

  • Very nice. You should do well in this contest. Great work.

  • No way. Not without rails ...
    By user_miller_523394, on February 10, 2017
    • There are rails on the top. The middle bunk is protected as well.. additionally, since it is diy rails can always be added :)
      By DIYDadOf4, on February 11, 2017
    • Those are far from legal or practical rails. Your kids never roll out of the bed?
      By user_miller_523394, on February 11, 2017
    • No, my kiddos are fine. As I said, it can always be adjusted. The beauty of building your own projects :).
      By DIYDadOf4, on February 11, 2017
    • Thanks again for your comments. If you have any questions concerning the build, materials or process I'd be happy to answer them. I do believe the safety factor has been covered so we can move on. Happy creating!
      By DIYDadOf4, on February 13, 2017

  • Sorry, I think there needs to be rails on this project? A small child falling from that top bunk could be seriously injured.
    By agbiz85, on February 10, 2017
    • These pictures may not represent the rail spacing very well. I had designed this with recommended rail gaps compared to commercially available metal and wood frame bunks. My three boys love this bed and have had no issues with possible falls.. That being said, any "children's climber" over 36" in height needs to have 4" of general padding or approved landing area in a commercial environment. Fortunately this is my home and my kids are very happy with how it is. Recently we even had 9 kids ranging in ages 3-10 climbing all over it for a few hours. Other then the room feeling like a sweaty kid sauna, we had no issues :)

  • What size material did you use? Did you put anything in the hole under the second bed? Was wondering if a dresser could fit there or a play house.
    By Kalswan14, on October 16, 2017
    • This was all done with KD 2x4’s. There is definitely room under the second bed, my kids make their own forts under that part. Definitely room for a dresser or really anything. Without looking I’d say it’s 3.5’ square.

    By Nelson86, on December 27, 2017
    • The beds are standard twin and the second bed can be moved closer in or farther out to fit the space you need. I believe the height is 74” but I can send you the sketch up plans if you would like them?

  • Thank you everyone for your comments. I’ll be sending out a copy of the plans to everyone who requested one and left their email. Sorry for the delayed reply!

  • This is great! I've been looking to build something like this for my 3 boys too! Would you mind sending me the plans? What was your all in $ on the wood? Thanks for sharing this!
By aaronbiby, on February 19, 2018
    • Hi aaronbiby! I’m happy to send you the Sketchup model for this. I don’t have and actual plans but the model is 90% accurate in measurements. I started at the bottom and made sure to measure the short pieces lol. The trick is in the structure of the design. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have after you see the model. I really don’t have a price, I think I purchased 25- 10’ Kiln Dried 2x4’s and two pounds of 2 1/2” deck screws. Lastly, I just need your email address!
