My son was getting old enough where he didn't need to stay in a crib. Money was tight so I decided to make a simple toddler-sized bed instead of paying a lot to buy one. I had the mattress so that was the starting point for the bed dimensions. I kept the design simple as I wanted to use regular dimensional lumber that I could easily get at Home Depot, but I didn't want that rough look that it would give. So I prepped it by running it through my surface planer which cleaned up the surfaces. A few cuts to the lumber, some holes for lag bolts and pocket screws, 2 coats of Painter's Touch Gloss Deep Blue, and it was ready for assembly. I went with a gloss spray paint so my son could decorate the headboard (or any other part of the bed) with removable wall decals. Right now he gets to use Dad's blanket and be a Syracuse Orange basketball fan too!
