Over the holiday break, my dad and I decided to get our garage organized. Organization has become more important now that Ryobi tools have taken over our space! We liked Ana White’s shelving design, and decided to adapt it to work for us. We went to Home Depot (the best store ever!) and brought home twelve 16-foot 2X4s and some plywood, which proved to be more of an adventure than we thought. Before we got a mile away, the weight we used to secure the wood, shifted. This threatened to spill all our wood on the interstate. We secured the wood again, and drove home. The construction was very simple, but was disrupted because the lumber we bought was slightly warped (okay, a LOT warped). We had to come up with some creative ways to clamp the wood, but we got it done. The Ryobi tools we used made the work very easy, and for the first time I got to use the table saw I won from the Ryobi Nation contest in November. This turned out to be a lot of fun, and I am already impressed with the accuracy of the saw. This project was fun because my dad had the vision, but he didn’t realize I would be able to execute it. I decided that if I ever win another Ryobi Nation woodworking contest, I will give $100 in tools to my homeschool co-op’s woodworking class, because the woodworking teacher Mrs. Lajunie is the person who really got me into making things with my own hands. That class had a huge impact on me, and I would like to see it continue. Thanks for voting!
