The Front Porch

My husband started building the front porch at my request. I am not as healthy as I once was,so he wanted to make the time I spend at home as enjoyable as possible. He built the deck first, then the roof, then he enclosed everything in. I hate bugs, so it HAD to be screened in. At first the decorative spindles were just going to be on the front but then we decided to add them all around. It was pretty difficult to cut all those spindles different lengths. The sides of the porch are not symmetrical, so that too became a challenge. My husband, George, did have his son Tony helping him. Tony did a lot of the hard work, like demolishing the front steps. Neither one of them had ever screened in a porch before so there was a lot of whining over that. Then my husband went one step further and caulked between each deck board and sealed over it with a deck refinisher. Landscaping and decorating were the last to come. Not bad for a man who is not a professional! All in all we love it!
