A friend of mine had stairs to her cottage that was so unsafe, the stairs fell apart as I stood on them. The distance from the road to the cottage was in the vertical direction so a new set of stairs had to be custom made. This will show some of the process to making a new set of steps. To give you an estimated size, the stringers were 24 feet in length. Each step was made of a pressure treated 2x12 added to a 2x4. The kick plate was made from a pressure treated 2x10. The stringers were routed a 1/4 inch deep to receive each step... and every step was glued, clamped, and nailed together, before loading it onto the trailer and lowered into place.
