Sewing Table

Ever since my daughter was old enough to talk, she's wanted to design clothes. For her ninth Christmas, Santa got her a sewing machine. So I wanted to give her a sewing table that would last well into her adult life and that was personal just for her (my father made me a dresser that I still have to this day). So I used an oak veneer plywood, solid strips of 1/8" thick plywood for the edges, and inlaid the top with her name and some edge banding. The name was inlaid by transferring a stylus onto the top and very carefully cutting it out with a rotary cutter. I stained it a Red Oak and put 4 coats of marine grade varnish on it for a lasting finish she could cut on. There are no nails or screws anywhere in the project. all joints are made with dowels, dadoe cuts, and glue. She still thanks me for it.
