My grown daughter needed a rolling kitchen island and found an Ana White design she liked. I love building things for my kids and grandkids so I jumped right in. Ana's plans are thorough and accurate so the build was a breeze with my Ryobi 10" table saw, compound miter saw, Ryobi hand held belt sander, Ryobi bench top belt sander and Ryobi orbital sander.
The trickiest part was the top. I considered several options (DIY concrete, butcher block and marble) but settled on unfinished maple flooring; I bought a bundle from Lumber Liquidators for about $50.
I learned a ton about edge gluing, cutting big-ish panels and using pocket hole screws.
Our daughter LOVES her island and that's the very best part!
