Rustic Coffee Table

  • June 6, 2016

I needed a coffee table, but everything I saw in the store was too expensive, cheaply built, or the wrong style for our home. I have 3 kids and needed something durable.

I was given rough cut 2"x12"x4's that were rescued from an old building. I had a bunch of scrap from shipping containers to use as braces. I used a 4x4 post for the legs.

I'm marking this intermediate because the rough cut lumber reclaimed lumber was slightly warped. It took some skill to manipulate and level properly. It also had a few cracks to work around.

I sanded the rough edges but left the saw marks for character and rustic aesthetic. It is smooth to the touch so no one will get splinters. I finished with semi-gloss so as not to compete with the woods character.

  • What a great use of reclaimed wood. It's a perfect fit for the style of the room- so glad you decided to let the wood's rustic character shine through.
