I make a rocking horse for each of my grandchildren (12). This year I am working on two. I give these to the grandchildren for their second Christmas. The horse plan this year is from Wood Magazine Nov 1995 issue. The plan calls for multiple types of wood, I use what is available locally in my area. Usually I start in the fall but this year I have started in January and will work on the rocking horses for many months. I vary the plan to the type of wood I use and my skill level. This involves using band saws, hand drills, drill press. various sanders and a lot of hand sanding. This woodworking is my primary hobby and is very satisfying and relaxing in my retirement.
