Refinished Interior Stairs

The carpet on our stairs needed replaced and my wife did not want carpet on the stairs. We have a friend who recently refinished their stairs so we were like if they can do it so can we. Removing the carpet was easy; however, removing the 1000 staples was not. One big surprise was the landing had a particle board plywood base which was used under the walls and the stair framework. Once we reworked everything the painting took the most time due to a 4 year old running up and down the stairs all day. However, the greatest joy for me was involving my son who absolutely loves to "work on something".

  • Great work on this! The charcoal color really adds a modern look to the stairway. Did you have to use a specialty tool to get out all those staples?

    • We used good ole fashioned needle nose pliers and channel locks.

  • Very nice! I like the contrast, and it goes great with your woodwork. I also like to see kids getting involved, my boy likes helping me as well.
