This project combines my love for re-purposed materials and retro-industrial design. All the wood was heart pine hand cut and rough milled by my great-grandfather. I reclaimed it from a 100 year-old tobacco barn on my family farm when an oak fell through it. I dry stored it for years waiting until we built our house. It has so much character with its imperfections. My sons helped my assemble over 160 pipes & fittings. Rough cut stock can be challenging to work with, however with the right tools, the end shows the work...just rustic enough!

  • Beautiful job! I'm building one similar shortly. May I ask what finish you used? It appears to be mostly a clear coat as the wood ends with a very natural tone.

  • I used Rust-Oleum 260169 Satin Ultimate Spar Varnish for the finish. I didn't want to bury the wood in shine, and I am very pleased with the results. I used 5 coats on the table and benches.
