Proposal/Wedding Arbor

I have a friend of mine that wanted to propose to his girlfriend recently on a boat in one of our nearby lakes here in Dallas. In order to get the arbor on to the boat, it had to be created using half lap joints and mortise and tennon joints. I used rough red cedar and a Minwax exterior stain and a lot of hours spent chiseling out waste.
Oh yeah, she said yes. My buddy is quite happy and now quite busy helping his new bride-to-be plan their wedding.

  • You are a great friend for helping make this such a beautiful proposal! Do you know if they will be reusing this arbor for their wedding as well? So special.

  • I believe that's their plan. Now that it's off the boat, I'm waiting for them to decide where they want it permanently. Once they figure that out we can reassemble with brackets and mechanical fasteners to give it some resistance against the winds.
