Porch Planter Box

  • August 4, 2016

Built this planter box as an anniversary present for my girlfriend. It is a bit heavier than I would like, so if I ever build another one I would change the wood choices. Overall, the build went pretty easily and it has been wonderful. It is lined with rubber with a drain that goes to the porch gutter to prevent over watering. Storage of tools is underneath and there is a side planter for a small berry bush.

  • This is a perfect solution for any urban area. What a great idea to integrate storage and a drain system! What wood would you recommend using for anyone thinking about building one of these?

  • I used 2x2s for the skeleton, which added unnecessary weight in the end. I would use 1x2s next time and try to find some low cost 1/2" for the decorative framing to further lighten it.
