Pallet Board Fireplace Surround

Our fireplace surround did not have any "warmth" to it. We got the idea to use old pallet wood to give it a vintage feel. I first stripped the boards from the pallets, being careful not to split the wood (the hardest part!). I mitered the edges and used my Ryobi brad nailer to attach the boards to the drywall. We finished it off with a copper effect porcelain tile and a new mantel. Just in time to hang stockings!

  • How did you meet the 6" code rule of space between firebox and combustible material (wood)? We want to do do this look but can't figure out that detail.
