My father-in-law kept complaining about how his current ottoman took up so much room, and how it would be nice if at least you could store stuff in it. So, the next time I was bored and needed something to do, I made this ottoman. The real beauty of the project is that the total cost for materials was only around $50, most of that for the panels and finish. The frame itself is just stock 2x4's, planed down to 1 1/8" thick. All joints are glued mortise-and-tennon, or rabbit joints - there are no nails, screws, or any other type of hardware anywhere in the project, other than the staples holding on the upholstery. Finish is dewaxed garnet shellac and satin polyurethane.
