Oak and Walnut End Table

I made this end table for a friend who just moved into a house (and out of a one-bedroom apartment). He and his room mates needed some furniture and I needed another project. Perfect match! I've made a similar table before and really liked how that turned out. The first one was pine - I wanted this to be hardwood. I really like the contrast between the light oak and the dark black walnut. I used Varathane satin water-based polyurethane over bare wood. I was very impressed with the way both woods took the protective finish and how quickly it dried to the touch. I think that it's a simple design but it has a nice mix of modern and rustic charm.
