A good neighbor Joe P. two houses down put up block walls around his yard. He offered some of his old fence panels to some of us who wanted them. I gladly took the panels knowing I had my 2 front gates to replace and some areas on my fence that needed repair. I had never made gates before but had watched tradesman do them on the job, i used to be a superintendent years ago. I used the old gates as templates for the gates. I used new treated 2"x4" for the 'Z' framing and did the smaller one first. The second one went faster and I used my new Ryobi 18V 1/2 drill & saw that I got for my birthday. Nothing feels better than to look at those new gates knowing I made them for a minimum cost (2x4's & screws) and the used boards. I possibly saved a small tree using those old boards making the 2 gates and repairing the fence were needed, and it all matches my old fence.
