My mom just moved and needed a dining room table. I made one for myself using Ana White's plans: http://www.ana-white.com/2010/09/square-modern-farmhouse-table. My mom really liked mine, and asked me to make one for her. The plans call for 2X6's for the top pieces. With the beveled edges of 2X6's, you don't have a smooth top. So, for this one, I used 1X6's which creates a really smooth top. It also makes it lighter, which is a plus, too. I used weathered grey varathane stain. The stain gives it an almost weathered look. Now, I'm making parson's chairs to go with the table.
