Modern Farmhouse Dining Room Table

Inspired by expensive dining room tables, I took on the project to build this modern farmhouse dining room table for less than $100.

I was a little hesitant at first because this would be my first building project ever. I had seen similar tables being sold for over $2,500, and thought for that much money, this project must be extremely difficult, but it was easier than it seemed.

The most difficult part was joining the top boards to the table. I wanted to glue the top so that it was very sturdy, however our clamps weren’t wide enough to fit. To overcome this, I just had to go get some bigger, heavier duty clamps, but I’ll be using them in the future.

The reaction so far has been extremely positive; friends and family alike are so surprised that I built such an expensive looking table. They’re even more surprised when I tell them it took less than $100!

In the end, I was surprised at how in love I became with building things. Sitting at the table, it is really empowering to know that I built it. The bench wasn’t even planned, but I was so thrilled that I just figured out what adjustments it would need, and made that too!
