Mini Valentine "Pallet" Heart Signs

  • February 5, 2015

I had some friends over to make these adorable Mini "Pallet" Heart Signs. They are made with 12" wood shims and came out so adorable! These were the easiest of easy crafts to make.
To make the signs before the girls came over, I stacked two or three shims on top of each other to create two small "stacks" and laid them parallel to create the back brace (lack of better word) then I laid the shims out in a square on top, alternating thickness to create the "pallet" look. We found that a staple gun worked better than a finish nailer, or brad nailer because of how thin the shims were. The nailers went right through the wood and the shims popped up. When the girls got here we painted them with white chalk paint. Then we cut a heart stencil out of a square piece of cardstock and used it to paint a red heart on the pallet. After that each girl decided how they would finish their own. I painted the word "love" using a white paint pen. Some of the girls sanded theirs down after painting it red and left it like that. My four year old son finished his off with a sharpie pen :) I think they all turned out amazing!
