I wanted a better view of the canyon from my yard. I wanted to be as close to the edge as possible, and as high as I could build safely. It needed to straddle a pig fence. I also had to do it by myself. I chose to make an 8 x 8 foot platform, with a child safe railing, eight feet high for the longest support post, weather and rot resistant, and with ladder to access it. I used Ryobi 18v saws, impact driver, and drills (2). It was caulked, sealed, and painted or stained.
All construction was done on site. There are no horizontal surfaces of exposed fir. This should last many years, safely, in a very rainy location.
