A black walnut tree had fallen on our land so I cut a log about 4 feet long from it and took it to my sawmill and cut four 2 inch thick boards from it. I used one of the boards for the seat, one for the back, one for the leg stabilizers and one for the brackets to connect the back to the bench. I used live edge birch logs for the legs, connected them all together, sanded all the black walnut pieces, and put three coats of polyurethane on it. I gave it to a friend that's fighting dementia and his wife had to have both knees replaced.

  • What a nice custom-gift to your friend and even more special that you used a log from your own land! What was your favorite part of this project?
