I didn't really choose a specific design from Shanty2Chic but I look at all their stuff and it inspired me to do this project.

This is my first wood working project but I think it turned out nice. It was a surprise for my wife when she got home from work (she works grave yard as a RN)

My son and i worked on it at my mom's when she went to work. And installed and painted to walls last night!

Not sure how many hour it took me but it was fun!

  • Nice work! You did  great job tying everything together.  I really dig the finish you chose, what type of stain did you use?

    • Thanks! I was nervous it wouldn't come together but it ended up being better than I expected for my first wood project haha.

The stain I used is Minwax Special Walnut 224.

I sanded it with 80 then 160 and then 220. Then I stained it and then used a rag to wipe it down. Then I used Minwax wipe on polyurethane.

My boy and I used a bag of screws and nails all different sizes, and a hook to scrape the wood to make imperfections in the wood to give it the beat up look.

  • Thanks for sharing these details.  We have a similar space in our laundry room and have been kicking around ideas, I showed your project to my wife and she loved it.  The design, finish and accent hardware you chose look so good together.

    • Awesome! I'm glad if you have any questions just ask!

also if you look at some of the top of the pictures there is a black shower curtain rod. It goes across from door frame to door frame to hang cloths to dry. it works great and holds a lot!
