Being avid readers, my wife and I needed some way to organize and store over 2500 books. With two offices in the house, we decided to add floor-to-ceiling shelves, to be designed for easy access to any book, and strong enough to not sag under the weight. The end result was almost 300 linear feet of shelving, with flush vertical trim (no hidden books) and 2-stage 5 1/2 inch crown moulding. The cases are modular, in case the next owners want to remove them. Sitting on hardwood flooring, the cases rest on felt pads to prevent damage to the floor. All trim was matched to that in the rest of the house, including 5 inch baseboard and oak shoe mould. Most of the shelves are fixed, for appearance and strength, but three modules use inset strips for adjustable shelves. Each section was caulked prior to painting, to limit air flow and dust. The dependable Ryobi BT3000 table saw was our prime tool for this project.
