I drew up plans for a triple bunk trundle bed to accommodate my tall grandkids. The two upper bunks are twin extra long, and the pull out is a standard twin. I purchased the solid Oregon maple from a neighbor who has a portable sawmill, and I made my own router templates to inlay the rail hardware. To enhance the grain of the wood, I used dye instead of stain in two hand rubbed applications with four coats of Varathane and sanding between coats. Tools used include a table saw, a router, a random orbital sander, a miter saw, sweat, and elbow grease.
