DIY solid hickory flooring

  • March 9, 2014

Whew! I can finally say we are done with our epic hickory floor project. It involved tearing up the carpet and linoleum in our living room, dining room and portions of the kitchen first, then installing underlayment and solid hardwood. After putting in that last board, we installed all new baseboard molding, patched and painted walls that were damaged in this insane endeavor, and just basically finished up all the little details.

For all the start-to-finish details as well as a list of the tips and tools we used to accomplish this beast of a DIY project, follow the links below:

  • This is amazing, most ppl of would find this project too overwhelming& pay someone else to do it. Your hardwork paid off in sublime flooring. You are an inspiration to all DIYer's. I have had plans for laying my own wood floors &wish to do this in my own home someday. I'm a renter for now, but have been drawing &redrawing out the plans for my dream home since age 13. I believe doing the work oneself VS. a "professional" makes your house a *home*. Thank you for sharing!=^_^*=

  • Thanks so much, Aferal. You're right about that personal touch. I even told my husband we can never move because every time I look at our floors, I'm reminded of all the hard work we and our family members did to get it done. Priceless! Best of luck when you get the chance to build that dream home. :)
