Custom Silverware Drawer Divides

  • February 16, 2015

Well, this was the easiest, cheapest, fastest little "wow factor" I've ever done. A $5.27 1 x 3 from the hardware store and 30 minutes in my garage gave me this custom drawer divide for my silverware. I'll be tackling my junk drawer next!
First I figured the layout I wanted based on our families needs, then I cut the boards, sanded the corners and cleaned them. I definitely recommend sanding the corners to be smooth and not sharp. You will be reaching in for the silverware over and over again so scraping your hand on the sharp corners would not be fun. The natural color of the wood matched almost perfectly to the interior of my drawer so I didn't need to paint or stain them.
I did make one mistake that I will do differently on my next drawers. I was using my stapler to staple the boards together so I got a little "staple happy" and stapled the entire divider to my drawer on the outside. I recommend screwing them in because now I have no way of removing them without ruining them. Would be handy for cleaning or if our needs ever changed.
