Custom Made Jewelry Cabinet

I obtained the idea to build this project from a picture I found online of a much smaller version. My mother always wanted one for mothers day and her birthday (they were three days apart) and was about to spend $250 on one that she found online shopping. I could not allow that and thus this project was born. Once I saw the picture, I could not find a guide on how to build one, so I just went by what I saw and thought. Needless to say it came out amazing and my mother's reaction was well worth the time it took. My husband now just shows it off to everyone he talks to. He tells them I could one day build the furniture for our house...lol

  • This project is very unique. I'm surprised you built this from scratch and without a premade foundation. Was the wood painted or stained?
By blazertoolsblazer, on June 9, 2016
    • The wood was painted. Color-chocolate brown. I shocked myself by the way it came out. I love drawing so I sketched it out before I builded it. This was my very first time building something this big and detailed with my first set of ryobi (big girl lol) tools. Now that I know how to build it, it can be simplified.

  • OMG!!! THIS PROJECT IS SO GORGEUS!!! I'm touched you did this for your mom. That was really sweet but I love this. Rings, bangles, earings, necklaces, all in one. This project looks very nice, you must be very skilled with your tools. Love It!

    • Thank you soon very much! The look on my mom's face was priceless. She was overjoyed to receive it, and shed happy tears when I told her I built it. This was my very first time building something this big and detailed. I just received my first set of ryobi (big girl) tools a couple months ago and learned how to use them at home Depot "do-it-herself" workshops. I said all that to say YOU CAN BUILD IT TOO!!! :) all I had was a sketch I drew out and faith that I can build it. One day I will sit down and write out, materials and step by step instructions on how I build the main structure. But the key thing is your unique spin on it! Personalize it to fit you! Most importantly, have FUN! God bless.

  • This project is really pretty. I am inspired to try to build one now. The bangle parts you made, are they anchored in by a nail or did you drill a hole to stick them in. Also how did you sketch out a part for the mirror?
By toolgirlrockstar, on June 10, 2016
    • You can build it! Just remember to make it unique to fit the outstanding person you are! For the bangles, I used a spade bit to drill a hole 1\2 inch wider in diameter compared to the pole. Now for the mirror part. First I would advise that you buy the desire mirror you like mine was about 52& h, I laid my mirror down on a flat surface and had 2 52&h 1x4 pine wood ( any wood desired) on each end of the mirror. From there I measured the width of everything from one end of the wood to the next (this I how I got my true width of whole jewelry cabinet) after I obtained the width I cut two shorter pieces of the same wood to go across the top and bottom. This will increase the height of cabinet. It may be a easier way but with this being my first time building something this big with my (big girl) tools, this is what worked for me. Right now I am working on sketching out the plans for this whole project and will post it very soon. soooo glad you liked it

  • What were the dimensions of your project? Do you share plans on how you built the cabinet and wood used?
    By buildbuildbuild21, on June 10, 2016
    • To be honest I began to build for fun! And build it based on what came to mind and what would would save me money. Lol when my husband post this project I honestly did not expect this much feedback. Truly motivated to continue building and I am working on sketching out plans for this project. Will post it very soon. Thanks so much for the support!
