Looking for some storage ideas? Making this storage locker out of crates is a simple way to create storage without taking up much space. You can use it for your kid’s art supplies, use it for gardening supplies or as tool storage. This is a simple project that can be completed with little to no skills, just a few simple tools.

  1. Project Steps

    1. Step: 1

      Large fe1d9b97 3b74 448b 9524 3608743beb75

Start with basic crates. You can choose the combinations you like for the size storage locker you need.

    2. Step: 2

      Large 3cebb699 ab9f 4140 9fac b5729cf06f2b

Stain or paint crates. This is an optional step as you can leave the crates plain.

    3. Step: 3

      Large 5579e863 1366 4001 adf6 45d7bab67906

Add 4 pieces of 1 inch scrap wood to the inside of the top crates. This is to hold the peg board(optional) away from the back of the crates so you have room for the pegs.

    4. Step: 4

      Large 1614fa95 c11d 4f1c af4c eadd5844eb3c

Place wood glue on the top and bottom outside of the middle crate and stack crates together.

    5. Step: 5

      Large ccd93305 06e9 4e64 9cef 485b11ea6b74

Secure each crate in place by using 4 screws in each corner of the crates. I turned the storage crates upside down so that the screw heads would not be seen on the top sides.

    6. Step: 6

      Large 36f22fb1 f31c 4765 8767 5b841f9549c8

Place the 4 casters on the bottom of each side of the storage locker, making sure to place the casters on the outside edges.

    7. Step: 7

      Large 0d7e04ba 3d28 43fb 8509 47dbbfac2ea9

Carefully remove the backs and the top slate of the front from the small crates. Once the 3 slates are removed, staple them on the top of the small crate, creating a double shelf. Secure each shelf, by screwing in the middle of the center crate.

    8. Step: 8

      Large f9651fa2 d9f0 4be7 ab46 e76e56dd8240

Stain the small section where the slate was removed from the small crate.

    9. Step: 9

      Large c2e9b0e8 25ab 4e31 a057 73cc0ab99566

Place the lockers facing each other and secure the continuous hinge of the outside edge.

    10. Step: 10

      Large 7e887ace 58f8 437d add6 c9cf24324f95

Cut peg board to fit the inside of the top crates and secure in place using the Air nailer. This step is optional if using peg board in your storage locker.

    11. Step: 11

      Large db71f8d9 7c4a 4ca7 aeb8 462058deadcf

Place latch on outside of crate and your storage locker is complete.

    12. Step: 12

      Large e8a711c8 1f6a 4888 b88c 4e4c8c93bd2f

    13. Step: 13

      Large 8fc2a2fb 840b 4b39 a0dc 0418381bc018

      Close up of peg board.
