Crate Shoe Storage

  • December 22, 2014

The new year is the perfect time to purge and reorganize! Our house doesn't have much closet space and the little space we have was being overtaken by my massive shoe collection. After donating and discarding the shoes that haven't been worn in the past year, I constructed this shoe storage display using the large Crates and Pallet wooden crates. I even used the smaller crates to organize and display my son's growing shoe collection.

  1. Project Steps

    1. Step: 1

      Large 2f47072c 8c45 47f6 9ae5 87b3889ffd2c

First, I measured the interior space of the small wooden crate and used my slide miter saw to cut a 1x4 and a 1x2 board at 10-5/16".

    2. Step: 2

      Large 43fc2c27 8e37 40a8 9226 6b2a16ef1a5e

Next, I used my Airstrike brad nailer to nail the 1x4 and 1x2 boards inside the crate.

    3. Step: 3

      Large aff4f268 e846 4c2f a43d 571746cc81bf

By doing so, I created an additional shelf in the crate.

    4. Step: 4

      Large c3d0db65 9688 456a ab56 559be11dd8eb

The small wooden crates with the extra shelf displays my son's shoes beautifully!

    5. Step: 5

      Large 6257475f eec2 40ed 98e3 6ad79e8f016d

For my shoe display, I used the large wooden crates and nailed them to the wall using my Airstrike Finish Nailer. Because we're renting our home and are always thinking of temporary solutions, I opted to nail the crates instead of screw them into studs in the wall. However, for a sturdier option, I would recommend screwing the crates into the studs.

  • FINALLY an option for renters! This is great, my daughters even want it in their closets!
