I started this project because a small non-profit company was in desperate need of a conference table and could not afford one. This Texas non-profit company does amazing things to help out the city of Houston. So I decided to donate my time and skills to help this company out as much as I could.
This conference/dining table is 108 in. long x 46.25 in. wide x 32 in. tall. The non-profit company wanted a custom one of a kind table built from scratch that incorporated steel and wood together. The table top is made from oak with slots cut out to fit two 2 inch pieces of steel flat bar and one 4 inch piece of steel flat bar. The steel trapezoid legs were cut, welded, grinded down, chemically treated with a black oxidizing agent, and clear coated with a semi-gloss polyurethane finish. The steel flat bar inserts were also chemically treated and sprayed with a few coats of semi-gloss polyurethane as well. The oak table top was sanded, stained, clear coated, and applied a few coats wax to give the table a nice lustrous look.
This project took countless hours, but was totally worth it in the end to know that this table will get many years of use in helping my community and city.
