Concrete Safaris-- Green Exercise Days

Concrete Safaris mission is to empower youth to be healthy leaders through green exercise & education programs that enrich the mind, body, community, & environment.

We are the first children's run farm on NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) property. We're beautifying neighborhoods one block at a time, adding new farms and gardens in East Harlem "El Barrio", NY.

East Harlem has the highest obesity rate in all of NYC; 1/3 of the adult population is overweight and 1/3 of the adult population is obese. We are devoted to making our neighbors in El Barrio fit by educating our youth about the importance of eating healthy, staying fit, and disease prevention.

Currently 1,500+ students and 800+ volunteers help build and maintain our farms and gardens throughout the year. With over 20,000 sq. ft. of land, dedicated students and volunteers produce over 5,000 organic crops for the Jefferson and Washington houses community, at no cost! We're always upgrading our 50+ raised beds, and without our three 18V Ryobi Drills we wouldn't be able to keep up the maintenance. A few weeks ago, 14 raised beds were constructed and our drills kept going after 6 hours of hard work. The following week, while inquiring about some power tools at the local Home Depot, a neighborhood Ryobi expert (JColbert) gave some great advice about tools that could take our farms and gardens to the next level. The Home Depot makes it easy to see what tools are really needed to make our projects better. Our next event is our biggest yet, with 225 people and we’re excited to show our stuff! Is Ryobi Nation ready for some construction photos?

We're thrilled to team up with Ryobi and The Home Depot to continue growing a healthy generation by developing/building new farms!
