When I’m not woodworking, I’m a full time teacher. The “Secret Pal” of my school’s music teacher asked me to come up with a good gift for her under $20 (we’re teachers- we don’t make much). She has been teaching for well over 20 years, most of them at our school. I did some digging and found the exact model flute she learned to play as a child. I went to her old music room in our school that recently closed down and reclaimed some of the wood she and her former students used to decorate and made her a lamp. I used that and the flute and made her a desk lamp.

  • This is definitely a lamp any music teacher would love! Is that a real flute?

    • Yes, I salvaged it from a pile of old instruments that were to be thrown away. I used a 2 stage epoxy to insert it into a hole I bored. I then ran the wiring up through it. She absolutely loved it and cried when I showed it to her!
