I love making things for my family and friends. I decided to carve my own character with a whittling knife. I thought it would be interesting if I could have his hands and feet move and maybe add a music box to it in the future. I used all scrap wood and drilled the pieces with my Ryobi drill. I used a small Ryobi trim router on the platform, an orbital sander and a 4" Ryobi bench sander for everything except the carving. I wanted the piece to be busy to occupy a little childs mind. I copied and shrunk small posters from the World War I era and glued them to the piano. The only difficult part of this project was making the movements and not cutting myself with the knife as I have Parkinson's. However, these kind of projects are therapeutic to my hands and soul.
