toured the Gettysburg Battlefield and the reenactment camps.one of my granddaughters saw this desk and ask if I could build her one.I said I would give it a try and surprised myself with the final outcome.the challenge was that I had never built anything like this.I am a retired truck driver who tinkered with some furniture construction but not to this extent.the wood I used is from scraps and leftovers from different projects in the past with at least 5 different kinds of wood used.I am surprised at how nice this desk turned out.Reaction has been very favorable and I already have some more grandkids asking for one of these.Future projects will be that if I try a project and do my best at it they will turn out okay.

  • We love the history behind this piece! What was the most helpful tool for this project?

  • The most helpful tools for this project were my thickness plainer and a biscuit joiner. I must say that I just got my first RYOBI tools for Christmas this year and they will fit in perfectly in my small wood shop.

  • I neglected to mention in my write up on project desk that the table that it is sitting on is part of the project.the table is also civil war era design and it folds up for transport purposes.
