Chicken Cook & Run

We have always wanted to raise chickens for meat and the eggs, so this year we finally did it. Our cuties needed a home, so we started building. Our yard has a tendency to flood when we get lots of rain, so we built the coop (the house) up off the ground. It is 8'x8'x9'. This also gives the chickens an additional area of shade. We have 6 nesting boxes and roosts inside the coop. We put a human sized door on the coop for when we need to clean it up. The run is 7'w x 20'l. We cemented the support posts and 1 foot of the chicken wire around the outside, to discourage digging predators. We used leftover metal from when we reroofed our house to give the coop area a roof. We then painted the coop to match our house colors.
