Chess Game Table

Please note: I did not construct the chess board sitting on the table. The table legs and drawer knobs were purchased at Home Depot.
My granddaughter made chess pieces in a ceramic class. She asked if I could build her a table for her chess pieces. I began the construction in early 2011. The construction was interrupted by male breast cancer. I was unable to work on the table because of seven months of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In October the project was resumed. I did not have any drawing plans for the table. I just built it. It was designed to fit the larger ceramic chess pieces. The table was made of poplar. The drawers open in both directions to house the two sets of contrasting pieces. The wood was stained with a redwood based stain.
