Made for a less fortunate individual who could not afford a stone grave marker for his departed brother, this piece was carved from a cedar 8x8 post cut into thirds and stacked. The top corners were chamfered, and then the cross center piece was carved out using a drill, small reciprocating saw, a belt sander, and Dremel. Walnut veneer was applied to the endgrain portions within the center piece to provide a better accent. The whole assembly was then finished in a two part epoxy resin. The largest challenge in this project was carving out the raised lettering.
The reaction of the recipient to this was one of gratitude. It was set in a concrete pad, and is still being maintained today.
