Catio

  • February 11, 2017

I wanted an outside space for our cats that was secure, but not too bulky and heavy. I saw a few small enclosures for sale online, but I wanted something bigger to fit on our deck. After sketching a few different designs, I kept it simple...about 5 feet x 5 feet x 6 feet high. I was able to buy the plastic fencing, PVC pipe and some of the fittings(tees, elbows and couplings) at my local Home Depot, but had to order the special fittings( 3-way and 4-way tees and elbows) online. It cost me less than $100 and once I had all the material, took me only a couple of hours to build. I used cable ties to attach the fencing to the pipe, but I did not use pipe adhesive(it was solid without it and the fencing does a good job of holding it all together....plus if I wanted to change my design, the connections could be repositioned). It is free standing and not attached to the house, so if I have to move it I can slide it to clean. My furry friends love their outdoor space, and my wife and I like that they can experience the outdoors safely and securely.
