butterfly leaf hickory dining table
I built this butterfly leaf dining table from hickory trees that I cut down to grow a vegetable garden. I had the trees sawn into boards and let them dry for two years. It took about three months of researching how the mechanism worked and designing the table. It took an additional nine months of making sawdust just about every spare hour I had after work and on the weekends. It is solid hickory except the walnut edging and inserts of river rock for hot pots. It is counter top height (between standard table and bar height). When I started the project my wife sold our old table in a yard sale and we used a folding card table. She was very happy to have the new table!
