Looking for supplemental income after spending 20 years in the airline industry I found a truck load of 1x 6 x 3ft new cedar from a fence project sitting on the curb waiting for waste management to pickup. I stopped and claimed the lumber filling the bed of my truck. I put my Ryobi tools to work and since then built between 50- 60 bird houses, bird feeders, deco fence hangers and planter boxes. I surprised my wife with a wheel barrow planter box for her birthday and she suggested that I take my projects to the local farmers market. Wow what a success.. I made some good money while saving the local landfill from a load of lumber. I have since found out that many fence companies discard their short boards and sometimes have to pay to haul them off. The projects were easy and I found myself building two or three and hour.

  • What a beautiful way to go green and reclaim scrap wood! Not only does this keep materials out of the landfill, but provides our feathered friends with homes and food. Everybody wins! Hopefully, this crafter does, too! (You have my vote! Beautiful job!)
