I wanted to update our very plain bathroom. It was our guest bathroom primarily used by my teenage kids so I didn't want a major overhaul.
Rather than just throwing a coat of paint on the walls, I decided to add some batten board around the walls. I had seen some designs on Pinterest and thought it sounded like a fun way to try out my Christmas present; a Ryobi cordless finish nailer.
I cut 1x2 s to place vertically spaced out on the walls.
I added a 1x3 along the top as a sort of cap. I added a piece of decorative trim to the top 1x3 to finish it out.
I replaced the baseboard with a 1x5.
I used a 15 gauge Ryobi finish nailer to afix the wood to the walls. Caulked all the edges, puttied the nail holes, then painted the boards and the wall space in between a bright white. Then I went in and painted the wall space above the boards.
Put a finishing touch of caulk around the sink for good measure.
If I had to do it over, I would probably spend more time prepping the wood, sanding, plainning,,,, Few would notice the difference, but it would have given it an extra finishing touch.
I have to say that I loved not having to drag a compressor up to the second floor and deal with the noise.
I tend to post my work on my FB page since my friends know I like to tinker on houses. The positive responses were many.
The real flattering part when our realtor saw the room during a walk through prior to the sale.
